LASER/Schoolkits to Haiti
5/12/2010
The Rev. Bill Wealand serves as the Disaster Ministries Coordinator for the Florida Conference of the United Church of Christ. He learned of a need for school kits to help the children of certain orphanages, a school, and a church in Haiti damaged by the Earthquake and that a non-profit human services group, LASER (Lake And Sumter [Counties] Emergency Recovery) had contacts there and would ship them. He also knew that Chapel on the Hill UCC in Seminole (Pinellas County) was storing 6 boxes of 30 kits each for Church World Service.
While at the Conference’s 2010 Annual Meeting, Rev. Wealand contacted The Rev. Drew Willard, pastor of UCC at The Villages about arranging to pick up these school kits to bring to LASER. Photos show Rev. Willard receiving the kits from The Rev. Gabe Oberholzer, pastor of COTH, loading them, and delivering the kits May 7, 2010 with help from UCCatV member, Terry Wiest, to Leisa Butler, Volunteer Coordinator of LASER.

Scenes from Our First Session on Conversations on Race.
The Sacred Conversation on Race was very successful, attended by about 65 people. It will hopefully be the first of several.
